The DESY Registry
The DESY Registry is the central administration tool for all users of the DESY computing environment. Here you can change your central password (used for Kerberos, AFS, and Windows) and inspect various settings about you and your account (access to resources, group memberships, physical mail address, etc.). You cannot change all settings yourself – for most of the items you’ll have to ask an administrator or contact the UCO.
Your central password is valid only for 180 days and has to be changed in time, otherwise your account will be locked. (You’ll be reminded via e-mail well in advance.) You can change your password using the web interface of the registry and also with the usual passwd command. Be aware that there are certain requirements for passwords in order to be accepted by the registry.
- Note that you can log in both to Unix and to Windows machines with your central password, but your home directories are not the same in both worlds.
